EU Adopts Resolution Against US Domain Seizures :curse:
Maybe it was just a fantasy, but at one time I believed that the USA was all about freedom. Now it seems to be the case that the USA is a fascist country that just does the bidding of big corporations. Hate to think that the money I pay in taxes is being used to stifle freedom here within the USA and around the world, but that seems to be the case.
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution which criticizes domain name seizures of “infringing” websites by US authorities. According to the resolution these measures need to be countered as they endanger “the integrity of the global internet and freedom of communication.” With this stance the European Parliament joins an ever-growing list of opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act .

DOJ Two Step: It Should Be A Criminal Offense To Lie About Your Age On Facebook... But We Probably Won't Go After You For It
And here's a case where companies more or less get to make laws. Making it against the law to violate terms of service is so insanely ridiculous that it's hard to comprehend! Violations of terms of service are an internal matter between the employer/employee or vender/patron and that's the end of it! My hunch is that law makers like this type of law because it would provide an excuse to arrest virtually anybody at any time since almost everyone has violated some picky term within a terms of service agreement at some point. Seriously, how many people even read the TOS agreement?
In this case, one of the key issues is that law enforcement has used the law in the past to say that any violation of a terms of service agreement -- such as lying about your age when signing up for a dating site -- could be a criminal offense under the CFAA. That, of course, is insane. Even more ridiculous, however, is that the DOJ's official testimony at the hearing was about how important it was to keep this part of the law in place, allowing it to add questionable charges. The law must allow "prosecutions based upon a violation of terms of service or similar contractual agreement with an employer or provider,"

Anonymous - A Message to Congress on SOPA
The whole bit about the USA spreading democracy and freedom is just a myth. The truth is it's all about creating a worldwide economic system that is advantageous to big corporations. Freedom and democracy are just the bait used to lure the stupid little mice into the corporate trap. The USA has become the land of lies.

Anonymous - Operation Blackout
Spread this message everywhere!
The United States government has mastered this corrupt way of giving us a false sense of freedom. We think we are free and can do what we want, but in reality we are very limited and restricted as to what we can do, how we can think, and even how our education is obtained. We have been so distracted by this mirage of freedom, that we have just become what we were trying to escape from.

For too long, we have been idle as our brothers and sisters were arrested. During this time, the government has been scheming, plotting ways to increase censorship through means of I S P block aides, D N S blockings, search engine censorship, website censorship, and a variety of other methods that directly oppose the values and ideas of both Anonymous as well as the founding fathers of this country, who believed in free speech and press!

The United States has often been used as an example of the ideal free country. When the one nation that is known for its freedom and rights start to abuse its own people, this is when you must fight back, because others are soon to follow.

Biden on Internet Freedom = Anti-SOPA
These are scary and dangerous times that we live in. Although most of this could happen without most of the population even noticing, the impact would be huge and would gradually change everything about our way of life.

1106 Words You’re Not Allowed to Text in Pakistan
While our government doesn't engage in censorship quite this crude in nature, it does employ more sophisticated and subtle means of limiting our freedoms.
Banning words is so 20th century! :laughingx2:
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority doesn't want Pakistanis to be able to text the following words to each other, in fear that they will become rapists and murderers, or something. So it banned them. Here are those words.

U.S. executes another round of Web site takedowns
Site owners should be given due process in court BEFORE sites are taken down. Any site owners unjustifiably dragged through this process should be refunded the cost of all legal fees.
Blog TorrentFreak ran a list of more than 130 domains it said were seized by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security's Immigrations and Customs Enforcement division as part of "Operation in Our Sites." TorrentFreak called the move the largest such round of seizures to date. Most of the domain names suggest sites that traffic in counterfeit clothing items: cheap-louisvuitton-replica.com, nfljerseyswhole.com, uggbootsclearanceoutletstores.com, and so on. The list is also sprinkled with names that suggest digital piracy: dvdsetonline.com, for example.

Sense & Censor Ability: Free speech preachers seek SOPA-powers
How is copyright infringement even that much of a problem? Why would we even consider jeopardizing basic civil rights in order to appease big corporations who fantasize that they are the victims of copyright infringement? This is so ridiculous it's hard for me to believe that this is even a serious conversation! We would actually risk essential freedoms to solve a tiny and insignificant problem?

How SOPA's 'circumvention' ban could put a target on Tor
The fascist need to control every little thing anybody does is really getting irritating! The problem with big brother is that big brother is stupid and the last thing we need is some big dunce running our lives and telling us what we can and can't do! Talk about dumbing things down! Keeping people dumb is where these people are coming from!
:curse:
A little-noticed section of the Stop Online Piracy Act could make it illegal to distribute Tor and other software that can "circumvent" attempts by the U.S. government to block pirate Web sites. The controversial Hollywood-backed copyright bill allows injunctions to be filed against "any" person, nonprofit organization, or company that distributes a "product or service" that can be used to circumvent or bypass blockades erected against alleged pirate Web sites such as ThePirateBay.org.

Tor's latest project helps Iran get back online despite new Internet censorship regime
It takes a lot of work to stay one step ahead of the fascists! Hopefully the development of tricks to outsmart the fascists in Iran will help us to outsmart the fascists here in the USA. It's nice to see that at least some people still believe in freedom!
:thumb:
The dramatic change proved the prediction of Tor project member Jacob Appelbaum distressingly accurate. Last week, as reports of the Iranian crackdown began circulating, he warned, "It's likely that more than ~50,000 - ~60,000 Tor users may drop offline." But Appelbaum and his fellow Tor project members had a plan: a new obfuscated bridge (obfsproxy) that makes encrypted traffic appear to be regular traffic. Obfsproxy was an "ace up our sleeve," as Appelbaum described it, and Tor put it into action over the past few days despite its user interface being a bit rough.
