Girl Fight on Facebook: Moms Arrested
It goes without saying: Be careful what you post online. :smack:
Two Indiana women were arrested for allegedly encouraging their teenage daughters to fight in a video posted on Facebook, police said. Both women were arrested for neglect of a minor, a Class D felony. The juveniles could also face charges for disorderly conduct, he said. The video was taken by a teenager not involved in the fight and posted on his Facebook wall.

10 Famous Social Media Blunders of 2010
It's not just individuals that make these kinds of mistakes, sometimes companies make social media blunders too!
WPMI-TV’s Twitter Billboard : An Alabama news station, WPMI-TV, decided to put up tweets from the LOCAL15NEWS Twitter account on a highway billboard. The 30 ft billboard was used to display tweets, as a way to connect to the station’s follower. It adorned an image of three of its most photogenic anchors, and added a live Twitter feed. The problem was that some of the tweets caught drivers’ attention because of their rather graphic nature. One time though one of the readers took a picture of a tweet with a concocted tweet that lead to the suspension of WPMI-TV’s general manager and news director. It read, "Three accused of gang rape in Monroeville."

Employee Fired Over Facebook Comment Settles Lawsuit
Apparently she settled for a tidy sum, although the financial aspect of the settlement is not disclosed here. Employers need to be careful not to trample on the rights of their employees and this lawsuit makes it pretty clear that just because someone works for a company doesn't mean the company can control what they do when they're not working!
The financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but we do know that Souza will not be returning to work at the same company. The woman’s employer, a Connecticut ambulance company, is also changing its blogging and Internet use policies in ways that will no longer prohibit employees from talking about work online, even if such talk constitutes what the company called “online badmouthing” at the start of Souza’s hearing. Especially since Souza was writing on her personal computer, at home and on her own time, her remarks about her employers were considered protected speech, according to the NLRB. The ambulance company’s social media and Internet policies were in violation of certain laws that protect employees’ right to talk about wages, working conditions and other factors.

Colorado Grave Digger Could Be Charged For Dancing On Grave
This guy lost his job as a result of a video he posted to Facebook that showed him dancing in an empty grave. Check out the video. It's nothing special, but it is a little bit amusing.
A Clifton, Colo., man has been fired from his job as a grave digger after he was filmed gyrating and playing a simulated guitar while standing on a burial vault. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Christopher Redd could face misdemeanor charges of desecration of venerated objects after his antics on July 23 at Memorial Gardens.

Lawyers in Murray trial using Facebook, Twitter to screen jurors
I suppose if someone has posted statements indicating a strong opinion regarding this specific defendant that such information would be relevant. Not sure how I feel on this one...
:conf003:
A simple Internet search can link attorneys to prospective jurors' blogs, tweets and postings on social networking sites to see if they have commented on a specific case. It also may offer insight into jurors' psyches. "Any information you can get on a prospective juror is helpful, because you have such a short period of time in which to evaluate who the person is that is ultimately going to be making a very important decision in the case," said Richard Gabriel, a jury consultant with Decision Analysis.

Facebook Hosts 4% Of All Photos Ever Taken In History
I'm sure some of them are pretty embarrassing and that the people in them wish they'd never been posted!!!
:funny:
The latest is a report that Facebook currently hosts 4% of all photos ever taken. Specifically, it hosts 140 billion photos out of 3.5 trillion photos taken in history. Now, obviously, technology change is at work here. Photography really only showed up for real about a century and a half ago, and didn't really hit the mainstream until less than a century ago. And, of course, for most of that time it involved (sometimes expensive) film and the expensive step of processing it. Photography has exploded over the last decade or so with the rise of digital cameras, and, of course, high quality digital cameras built into mobile phones.

Teacher Fired After Video Showing Sex Acts & Drug Use Sent To School & Parents
Blunder or revenge? It's not really fair to fire someone in a situation like this. It makes it too easy for others to get revenge and there will be more and more people with embarrassing videos out there in upcoming years thanks to digital cameras!

This is yet another reason why people shouldn't make a big deal about sexual matters. Yeah, you've gotta be careful not to acquire and spread STDs, but other than that it's just like any fun activity that people can do together!!!

Union Township school officials investigate teacher who allegedly made anti-gay remarks on Facebook'
If she didn't say it in the classroom, then it shouldn't have anything to do with her job! I'm sick of forcing people to adhere to politically correct beliefs by using their jobs against them. I don't agree with what this lady said, but I'll be damned if I'm going to agree with the idiots who want to rob her of her first amendment rights! She has the right to believe what she wants to believe and she has the right to discuss her beliefs openly and as long as she's not using the classroom as a forum to discuss her beliefs there should be no cause to dismiss her as a teacher!!!
:curse:
School officials in Union Township are investigating allegations that a teacher at Union High School posted comments on her Facebook site criticizing a school display recognizing Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender History Month and calling homosexuality "perverted." On Saturday, a local attorney who said he had initially been contacted by a parent, wrote to the district calling for the teacher’s dismissal.

Viral Video Under Investigation
This might be a case of a big deal being made over nothing and then again it could be misuse of equipment purchased with public money. :bubble:
An investigation is underway after YouTube viral video “Save Miranda” out of West Covina, California, used real police equipment, vehicles and sidearms. KABC has a look at the police-profiling spoof.
OFFICER: “Stay facing away from us and step back till I tell you to stop.”
REPORTER: “It shows several people in West Covina Police Department uniforms and patrol cars pulling over and intimidating a civilian. Although attempts were made to cover up the city’s name, West Covina city officials are outraged.”
MAYOR PRO TEM MICHAEL TOUGHEY: "We're wasting our time dealing with these goofs that wasted our resources and our equipment doing this."
