Huge malware attack compromises more than 1.5 million web pages
That's a lot of web pages and included on the list are pages at iTunes. You'd think Apple would be more prepared!
:violin:
A ton of web pages have been compromised by a huge malware attack dubbed LizaMoon. The attack shows that malware is a bigger menace than ever and that many web sites aren’t protected. More than 500,000 pages have been compromised and are linked to a site called lizamoon.com, but more than 1.5 million web URLs also appear to be compromised in a similar way. The attack is still proceeding unabated, according to Websense Security Labs. Dave Marcus, director of security research and communication on McAfee Labs, said, “This type of threat vector is common and actually happens all the time, however it’s not always on this scale. There are many tools that exist currently that do this in an automated fashion.” The attack is an SQL injection attack, which exploit badly written web applications and mess up a web site’s databases. Through programming errors, SQL injection attacks can be launched in any programming language.

Epsilon Hack Might be 'Biggest' Security Breach in History
Get ready for some more email spam. Some of it might be more convincing as a result of this security breach. If you do business with a firm affiliated with Epsilon then you'd better be extra vigilant about convincing spam. The hackers have graduated from just "fishing" to "spear fishing" according to this report.

Netflix Uses 30% Of ALL Bandwidth Consumption During Peak Hours In North America
NetFlix is the number one bandwidth hog! Maybe there should be a surcharge for any single company that uses more than 1% of total bandwidth! :sunshine:

Social Media Fight California Online Privacy Legislation
Great... just what we need... stupid bureaucrats forcing social media companies to adhere to their half-baked laws. The less interference from government, the better!

Google’s WebP Image Format Takes On JPEGs With Sharper Pictures
Impressive space savings without any sacrifice in image quality. :onion:
Google is on a mission to make the Web faster. One thing that slows down pageload times are fat image files. Even JPEG and PNG files can get pretty big. So Google is developing a new image format called WebP (which is a sister format to its WebM project for videos).

Amazon Sales Tax Bill to Hit Congress Soon
This sounds like a cheap maneuver to allow the government to collect more taxes. Anything that increases taxes, I'm against! :curse:
Every so often a state will propose legislation that would force Amazon to collect sales taxes on purchases. Amazon typically responds to such propositions with threats to close shipping centers and lay off workers. This usually scares the shit out of legislators who simply cave to the pressure and ax the taxes. But what happens when the sales-tax law is proposed nationwide? Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says he plans to find out very soon when he introduces the Main Street Fairness Act, which, among other things, would require online retail stores like Amazon to collect sales taxes.

Is YouTube Killing Music Piracy?
YouTube is now like what the radio was for me a couple decades ago. If I want to hear a new song I just go to YouTube and see what is new and/or interesting. The record companies make money on YouTube just like they used to get paid by radio stations to play their music. It's just a slightly different venue.
For years the top record label executives have been claiming that it’s impossible to compete with free, but YouTube is proving them wrong. With billions of views every month the major record labels are making millions by sharing their music for free. For many people YouTube takes away the incentive to ‘pirate,’ but at the same time it may also cannibalise legal music sales.

Unfriended: Six Million Americans Fled Facebook Last Month
The other problem with Facebook is that it is just plain not fun to use. It has a clunky interface and it provides very little of real interest. It's not much more than a gloried email site.
Though the social networking behemoth continues creeping toward 700 million global users, six million Americans quit the site in the month of May. That's the first time Facebook has lost U.S. users in over a year. The site also posted losses in Canada, the U.K., Norway, and Russia, while most of its gains came in countries in the developing world, including Mexico and India.

FBI targets cyber security scammers
Another online scam! You gotta watch out for internet scams when surfing the interwebs! :pacman:
Co-ordinated by the FBI, the raids were carried out in the US, UK and six other countries. The money was made by selling software that claimed to find security risks on PCs and then asked for cash to fix the non-existent problems. The raids seized 40 computers used to do fake scans and host webpages that tricked people into using the software.

About one million people are thought to have installed the fake security software, also known as scareware, and handed over up to $129 for their copy. Anyone who did not pay but had downloaded the code was bombarded with pop-ups warning them about the supposed security issues.
