I don't think I'm going to visit all the websites on the internet anytime soon! :up2:
But no one really knows how many websites or individual Web pages make up this seemingly infinite digital universe that is the internet. Kevin Kelly, a founder of Wired magazine, has written that there are at least a trillion Web pages in existence, which means the internet's collective brain has more neurons than our actual gray matter that's stuffed between our ears.

Untangling the web: how the internet has changed the way we treat death
Ever consider what happens to your Facebook account after you die? :confused2:
Death in the age of the web reminds us how much the technology has become part of the fabric of our personal and social identities. Once we're gone, what we leave behind is a rich resource of who we are. We may not survive beyond the release of the next social network, but our inevitable ends are being extended by our digital lives.

Too far for Facebook? How the site decides what to ban
Bad taste? Yes. Humor involving illegal acts? Yes. Should it be banned? No. :prof:
A controversial Facebook page that jokes about rape has caused a strong reaction with nearly 5,000 people in the UK and 176,000 in the US signing an online petition - yet Facebook is refusing to take it down. It says the page, called "You know she's playing hard to get when your chasing her down an alleyway", does not break rules on posting hateful content or inciting violence. The page currently has 194,000 likes. But exactly where does the site draw the line and how does it decide on what to take down? "You will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence," states Facebook's statement of rights and responsibilities.

How to Start The Next Internet Meme
This article contains tips on how to start the next web trend. Using the PepperSprayCop meme as an illustration, it explains how to go about constructing the next internet meme or viral video!
bouncer
This week we all were horrified at seeing John Pike, a University of California at Davis police lieutenant, pepper spray a collection of kneeling student demonstrators. Within hours, it became a meme, complete with amusing images, references to the actual product used by Pike, and clever plays on the cop's name. While I won't link to any of the images in this post, what I will do is provide the complete reference for building your own meme in the future, and examine the various skills and services that you need to get it going. Granted, the pepper spray meme was built on the keyboards of many individuals, acting loosely together. But studying this meme's progress can teach you what you need to know to get your next one out in front and at the top of Google's organic searches.

Is Twitter really worth $8 billion?
It ain't worth nuthin' to me, but apparently it's worth something to somebody! :dizzy:
On Monday, Twitter announced that it had received a "significant" round of funding, led by Russian dotcom mogul Yuri Milner and his Digital Sky Technologies. It's estimated that the micro-blogging site raised a fresh $800 million in capital, and that the cash injection pushes the company's value to more than $8 billion — more than twice the $3.7 billion at which the company was valued last December. Could all those 140-character missives really be worth that much?

Is Google+ Really a Social Media Game Changer?
The latest and the greatest? I don't know. If people drop Facebook and move to Google+ then yes, but we'll have to wait and see! :rolleyes2:
Facebook has been around for years. When Facebook first became publicly available, MySpace had a gazillion users. When AOL was at the top of its game as a community platform, there was no such thing as MySpace. Don’t worry about counting users. Google has far deeper pockets than Facebook and several dozen applications that are all useful to business. I’m not predicting that Google+ wipes out Facebook, but the comparison is silly. A few months of Google+ compared to a handful of years of Facebook is not a decent comparison.

Occupy Geeks Are Building a Facebook for the 99%
Facebook sucks and it being corporate owned don't help! Something owned and operated by the users makes more sense to me. It's like radical democracy on steroids which would be a fatal blow to corporatism!
“I don’t want to say we’re making our own Facebook. But, we’re making our own Facebook,” said Ed Knutson, a web and mobile app developer who joined a team of activist-geeks redesigning social networking for the era of global protest. They hope the technology they are developing can go well beyond Occupy Wall Street to help establish more distributed social networks, better online business collaboration and perhaps even add to the long-dreamed-of semantic web — an internet made not of messy text, but one unified by underlying meta-data that computers can easily parse.
