Android Crosses 130 Million Devices Worldwide: Over half a million activated daily.
Smartphones are an interesting innovation. The problem is that they are so small that it's hard to use them. Tablet PCs are kind of neat too, but the problem with them is that they don't fit in your pocket. Is there no such thing as a PERFECT SOLUTION?!!
:up2:
The total number of devices sits under the 200 million that Apple reported at WWDC, but considering that the iPad has a huge lead in the tablet market, there is still plenty of room for Android to grow and, you can be sure, Google has no plans of slowing down.

Map Trends Show Mobile And App Growth Outpacing Browsers
Interesting trend... :pacman:
Location-based services and increasing smartphone sales are leaving their mark on the mapping world: mobile-based map access is up significantly, while access from “stationary” points (i.e. desktop and laptop PCs) actually dipped slightly. It’s not particularly surprising, but the rate of growth is remarkable. Mobile use increased by 39% year-over-year by Comscore’s measure, but access via apps doubled. This suggests a nice halo effect from local-knowledge apps like Foursquare and Urban Spoon.

Malware For Android Users Increases In Frequency And Sophistication
It almost sounds like smartphones just provide one more opportunity for hackers to hack.
The tactics that baddies are using are as impressive as they are worrisome. Techniques include cloning a legitimate app and packing it with nasty code; using misleading disclosures; posting in-app mobile ads that lead to malware (“malvertising”); and a tactic wherein a malware maker releases a clean app but then packs malicious code into an update. Recently, researchers uncovered an Android-specific Trojan that actually records phone calls.

It’s no surprise that mobile malware threats are proliferating. Mobile devices are increasingly powerful little machines that users rely on more and more for general computing tasks, as well as for storing sensitive personal information. But with additional capabilities comes greater complexity, and complex systems tend to have more bugs and holes that can be exploited.

Ballmer: Android users need to be 'computer scientists'
Typical Micro$oft propaganda! :smack:
Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Ballmer had this to say when comparing Windows Phone handsets to Android handsets: You don’t need to be a computer scientist to use a Windows phone and you do to use and Android phone…It is hard for me to be excited about the Android phones. He goes on to tear into the iPhone....

How to add Ice Cream Sandwich features to your Android phone today
Sounds delicious!!!
Google announced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) last week, but unless you have a Nexus S or you invest in a Galaxy Nexus, chances are you won’t receive an official update until 2012. Furthermore, ICS represents a huge updated with many new features and improvements, so the wait will be particularly excruciating. Don’t despair, though: With a little digging and a few new apps, your older Android phone can get an ICS-style makeover.

Smartphones As Wallets?
I'm not so sure that this is a good idea! :frightened:
A joint venture established a year ago with Atlanta-based AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA and some of the major banks and credit card issuers, is hoping to make the mobile wallet mainstream. The venture, called Isis, is testing its mobile wallet with a list of local stores in Austin and Salt Lake City and with some nationwide vendors including Coca-Cola Co., Dillard's and Champs Sports. Isis hasn't said when the mobile wallet will be available in other markets or when the venture will expand its list of national merchants, said Jaymee Johnson, head of marketing.
