USFS campground openings ahead
Here's a pretty good article on some upgrades being completed on campgrounds in the eastern Sierra. It's good to know that there's enough money to at least perform some basic maintenance like this. Anyone have some campground recommendations for the region south of Lake Tahoe and north of Barstow and including the eastern Sierras and western Nevada?
Campground Improvements Listed in This Article:
1. Convict Lake
2. Sherwin Creek
3. Mammoth Lakes Basin
4. Reds Meadow
5. Glass Creek, Hartley, Upper and Lower Deadman, Obsidian Group, and Big Springs
6. Big Meadow, Iris Meadow, and Aspen Group Camp

The BLM's Chimney Creek Campground needs some love. But well the water has a problem up there. I think Uranium had something to do with it. Still is really neat up there.

Halfords TV AD - 'The Trip'
Not exactly viral, it is at least popular with 164,231 views in a little over a week. Neat video promoting family camping! I'm sure some of you who prefer your camping to be free of noisy kids will not appreciate this ad, but people with fond memories of campouts with the fam will!

Reds Meadow: No projected opening :puzzled2:
It's amazing that this popular spot is temporarily out of commission. I'm sure that the forest service and park service are working hard on repairing the damage, but it's hard to conceive of this attraction being closed for any length of time. That must have been one heck of a storm to do all this damage!
As we near the beginning of summer many are wondering about camping and trail access, including to the John Muir and Pacific Crest Trails in this area. The following is provided as an update from the US Forest Service and the National Park Service of what is known as of the end of May. Currently there is still no public access to Reds Meadow Valley, the Reds Meadow Road remains closed to all traffic including pedestrian and bicycle, and there is no projected opening date for public access at this time. Currently the Forest Service has suspended campground reservations in Reds Meadow Valley. Wilderness reservations are still being taken for July and later in the summer, but at this time there are no predictions for dates that specific trails will be clear

BLM campgrounds open with upgrades
It's nice to know that every once in a while taxpayer funds get used in a productive way! :yippy2:
Some campgrounds in the Eastern Sierras managed by the Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office are open to the public with major upgrades completed. The project – to renovate five campgrounds managed by the BLM – began in the spring of 2011. The upgrades were long overdue said Jeff Yanez, BLM project manager.

Summer in the forest
An update concerning campsites up in the Mammoth area:
As of June 29 the Reds Meadow Road is open and the mandatory shuttle bus is in operation. Devils Postpile, Reds Meadow and Minaret Falls Campgrounds are all open, however some campsites are not available due to remaining damage from the November 30 wind event. Pumice Flat Campground is expected to open soon. Upper Soda Springs and Agnew Meadows Campgrounds will have a much delayed opening and may not even open this summer season; both of these campgrounds remain closed to public entry due to hazards.
