The article says that there are 14 abandoned houses that might get torn down using this money. Asbestos is an issue with some of them. At least this money will help to make things a little nicer and safer...
:conf1:
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors awarded Trona Care, Inc. a $75,000 grant to abate houses and purchase a generator for the Trona Senior Center. Trona Care Inc. is a nonprofit organization, founded by Margaret Gram and co-founders Lit Brush, Connie Courto, Marsha Courto, Bonnie Fairchild, Jackie Leonard and Tim Parnell to improve the community and instill pride in all community members.

Separating the sheep from the goats
Goat-lovers probably aren't too happy about this, but if it saves a few Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep (SNBS), then I guess it's a good idea!
:sunshine:
The purpose of this project is to support the Recovery Plan for SNBS, an endangered species, by addressing concerns regarding disease transmission between domestic goats and SNBS. Domestic goats can carry diseases that are communicable and deadly to native SNBS.

Digital 395 progress
I don't think this is going to do Trona any good, but maybe it might.
According to Michael Ort on Sept. 6, the CEO of Praxis, the project was already proceeding north from Barstow and was two-thirds up State Route 58 to Highway 395. He estimated that the ground crews were doing five miles per day. Ort said he hoped to get to Ridgecrest by late October or early November and before the first snows set in. They are also breaking ground up in Bridgeport.
