Hundreds scour Randsburg area for missing men
There must have been foul play involved. The article says they left their hotel room at 2:30 am. Unless they wanted to watch the sunrise at some special location, there would be no good reason to leave that early.
A massive search in rugged, mine shaft-riddled terrain continued Wednesday for two Santa Barbara men who went missing early Sunday morning after leaving a Randsburg motel. And loved ones on two coasts waited for word on their fates. The men left the motel without food, water, cell phones or heavy clothing, Kern County sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said. Hundreds of searchers were going over an 1,100-square-mile area, much of it desert.

Two Bodies Found in Mojave Desert May Be Missing Santa Barbara Men
I've been following this story for the last few days and regret the sad ending, but after the first couple days it became obvious that things would end this way.
Two unidentified bodies were found at Government Peak in the Mojave Desert about noon Thursday, according to Kern County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ray Pruitt. He said they were more than a mile from Randsburg, where Rice, 29, and Carbonaro, 27, left the Cottage Inn Motel on an all-terrain vehicle about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Big Pine man rescued
A 73-year-old man went off hiking by himself and got stuck in a cave, but lucky for him he was promptly rescued. He's pretty lucky just to be able to hike at his age!
:thumb:
Rescue personnel responded to the location and found Derrick approximately 40-feet down in a vertical cave. Derrick advised that he was uninjured but was unable to ascend his rappel rope tied off to an anchor outside of the cave. Derrick was extricated from the cave with the assistance of SAR members.

San Francisco man still missing in Death Valley
Unless this quy was abducted by aliens :alien: this guy is probably toast. Not to be flippant, but the desert is unforgiving and it's important to be prepared anything and everything!
:tumbleweed:
Kohler was last seen wearing a blue jacket, navy blue t-shirt, and black pants; he is 5’ 7” and approximately 160 pounds, he has brown hair and brown eyes. Kohler did not have his bicycle or any overnight gear with him. Anyone who was on the Scotty’s Castle Road that may have seen Kohler or given him a ride is asked to contact the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 760-878-0383.

Man rescued from mine
It's surprising that there aren't more people needing to be rescued from the mines in Searles Valley and Panamint Valley. There's plenty of them for people to get stuck in! That's for sure!!!
:up2:
Kern County firefighters rescued a man early Monday afternoon who was partially trapped in the Lost Dutchman Mine near the Duisenberg Mining Camp.
In a press release, KCFD Public Information Officer Capt. Derek Tisinger said the department received a call just before 12:15 p.m. for a man who had become entrapped in an open pit while mining for gold. This area is located northeast of Randsburg. About 10 firefighters from Battalion 7 and Engines 74, 75 and 77 responded to the incident.

Two rescued after falling into a mine shaft near Lake Isabella
Another mine shaft rescue! It seems that maybe instead of being called Wilderness Rescues, that this thread should be called Mine Shaft Rescues. Someone could probably do one of those reality shows just about mine shaft rescues if they really wanted to!
A man and a woman had to be rescued Friday evening after falling into a mine shaft near the Keysville area of Lake Isabella. Approximately 14 firefighters responded to the incident including one fire engine from Lake Isabella, a Technical Rescue Team comprised of two Bakersfield area fire stations and one Battalion Chief.

CLMRG assists in Lone Pine rescue
I wonder how much of the costs for an operation like this the person being rescued actually winds up paying. It's got to be a fairly expensive operation to jostle around on the side of a mountain to rescue somebody!
:confused2:
Members of the China Lake Mountain Rescue Group participated in a joint overnight rescue operation with Inyo County Search and Rescue May 20-21. Team Leader Dan Bishop said CLMRG responded to a request from Inyo County to assist in rescuing a fallen climber on the north ridge of Lone Pine Peak near Mount Whitney. The climber had fallen approximately 50 feet on technical terrain at the 11,600-foot elevation. Inyo and CLMRG teams were air lifted via helicopter near the 12,944-foot summit.

CLMRG assists Inyo County SAR with rescue on Mt. Whitney
Another wilderness rescue! This person (a 26-year-old male) was suffering from a combination of acute mountain sickness, exhaustion, and hypothermia. The guy was airlifted from Trail Camp to Lone Pine Hospital.

PVFRS rescues injured man near Johnnie
Lucky for him that he was able to get a cell phone signal!
:tumbleweed:
One man was rescued in the Johnnie Mine area this weekend after breaking his ankle while exploring on his own. Medics from Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Services were reportedly called out to the area around 3 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a man down with a fractured ankle. Lt. Steve Moody said when the first medics arrived on the scene the man had managed to crawl 400 yards on his stomach up an incline to higher ground in order to get a cell phone signal to call them for help.

LA climber found dead in the backcountry
Mountain climbing is pretty dangerous and doing it by yourself is even more dangerous!
Mono County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with team members from the Mono County Sheriff’s and Yosemite National Park Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams, responded to the Matterhorn Peak area to search for the overdue hiker, Michael J. Ybarra, age 45, of Los Angeles, CA. Search teams found that Mr. Ybarra had signed the summit register at Matterhorn Peak, but not at Cleaver Peak, thus intensifying the search efforts between the two peaks.
