The Growing Backlash Against Overparenting
Paranoid parents are a big part of the problem. It could be argued that they are paranoid because of media exaggerations of various dangers, but it's more likely that the media hypes these dangers because these airheads eat it up!
:smack:
But in the 1990s something dramatic happened, and the needle went way past the red line. From peace and prosperity, there arose fear and anxiety; crime went down, yet parents stopped letting kids out of their sight; the percentage of kids walking or biking to school dropped from 41% in 1969 to 13% in 2001. Death by injury has dropped more than 50% since 1980, yet parents lobbied to take the jungle gyms out of playgrounds, and strollers suddenly needed the warning label "Remove Child Before Folding."

Once obsessing about kids' safety and success became the norm, a kind of orthodoxy took hold, and heaven help the heretics — the ones who were brave enough to let their kids venture outside without Secret Service protection. Just ask Lenore Skenazy, who to this day, when you Google "America's Worst Mom," fills the first few pages of results — all because one day last year she let her 9-year-old son ride the New York City subway alone. Skenazy decided to fight back, arguing that we have lost our ability to assess risk. By worrying about the wrong things, we do actual damage to our children, raising them to be anxious and unadventurous or, as she puts it, "hothouse, mama-tied, danger-hallucinating joy extinguishers."

Anderson Cooper and Nancy Grace Switch Bodies
Anderson Cooper appears to be sensationalizing some postings at Reddit. Apparently some "suggestive" photos of teenage girls are being posted to a Reddit sub-forum called "Jailbait", but it sounds like none of the photos are illegal by any stretch of the imagination despite what the lady lawyer says. In fact, the lady lawyer reminds me too much of one of those fake experts that Nancy Grace likes to have on her show. They always act like something of questionable taste is so outrageous that it should be illegal. I'm just not buying it. Anyways, here is the video and a few of the more interesting comments made in response to it that were posted at a couple different sites:
1) I think the line for porn should be sex. Nudity is not immoral. We are born that way. Even if some person can find nudity erotic, that is a matter for them. The image itself is not obscene.

2) Just went over and looked at some pics, didn't see anything that approached being labelled child porn. That Sunny woman needs to get a life (or get laid). Nothing I saw was something you can't see walking around a beach - and if that's porn then all those folks are breaking the law and the cops should do something about it.

3) Absolutely! If the person would not be arrested for being in that outfit in public, there should be no crime to share photos of it. The creepy nature of it is that some people think others are thinking a certain way, so suddenly the photo becomes porn. That is not the case. We must not make thoughts alone crimes. Actions can be crimes, not thoughts.

4) So apparently Anderson and almost every poster here doesn't understand deviant humor? Do you actually think that half of those comments are there for any other reason than to shock you or the other readers of Reddit??? This is equivalent to reporting on inner city black children's sexual obsession with each others mothers. Your Mama is such a skank...

5) "What happened to corporations doing the right thing?" What? When was that ever the case? Since when where corporations "good corporate citizens" or expected to be? All corporations do is sell their product or provide their service in the most profitable means necessary, they only "do the right thing" when it's beneficial to do so, not out of the kindness of their corporate hearts, stupid bitch! It's pervy, it's in bad taste, but it isn't child porn and it isn't illegal.

6) Every study conducted throughout history has shown that the people who take the most offense to child pornography are people who are themselves deeply aroused by it. This person becomes disgusted with how they feel, and decides to take this out on others so as to conceal their own shame. Ever notice how many anti-gay politicians end up getting caught in a homosexual affair? Truth. This "for the children" crap needs to stop, it is sick.

7) Such little research... and the spin! Eww, I'm dizzy.. Such sensationalistic garbage!

8) "We're tired of people hiding behind the first amendment." Really? CNN makes me sick the more I watch it.

9) By their logic facebook is the biggest child porn provider on the planet. Maybe they should look into why these girls post pictures where they portray themselves as sex objects into the public domain in the first place. It's a little schizophrenic to create an environment where the media push sexuality on adolescents and simultaneously try to pressure anyone above 18 to overlook it. You simply can't have it both ways at the same time.

Anderson Cooper Questions reddit 'Jailbait' Community: Is it Child Pornography?
This is so stupid that it's funny. Obviously nothing approaching child porn was posted on Reddit and yet you have moral panic responses at the mere suggestion that something of questionable taste appeared on the site. This is pretty ridiculous, but some people are addicted to moral crusades and this discussion has all the elements that are likely to appeal to those out looking for a fix of moral outrage!
:laughingx2:
A look at reddit Friday indicates that many redditors saw Cooper's show: Multiple posts address the segment, and a suprising number of users have posted images of Cooper's face photoshopped onto bikini-clad female bodies. "I didn't even know this subreddit existed. Thanks Anderson Cooper!" one redditor wrote. "Could someone rip the soundbite of Anderson Cooper saying 'keep a teen off the streets -- put her in your van' and make it so when you click on the banner on r/jailbait, it plays that soundbite?" another wrote.

‘Dangerous Instincts’: Ex-FBI profiler explains dangers of that ‘nice’ neighbor
This is exactly the kind of misinformation that fuels moral panics. While it is true that some nice people do bad things, the vast majority of nice people don't do bad things. When that one in a million exception to the rule becomes viewed as the rule, that's when moral panic thinking takes hold and tends to go out of control!
:crazy2:
The niceness paradox. O’Toole worked as a profiler for the FBI for 30 years, headquartered in Quantico. She interviewed the Unabomber. She worked on the Polly Klaas abduction, the Red Lake school shooting and the investigation of David Parker Ray — the Toy-Box Killer who tortured women in a high-tech homemade dungeon. What she found was that the most dangerous criminals were often the ones who came across as the most harmless. That’s how they were able to continue harming people.

Syracuse Assistant Coach Accused of Molesting Ballboy
Hmmm... First we have the Penn State accusation and now this. Will there be a rash of sports-related molestation cases over the next few months? Apparently the media has grown tired of teacher-related cases and the Catholic Church thing played out a while ago and Micheal Jackson is dead and so this gives a new spin on an old favorite outrage type story. I'm betting that the accusers are in it for the money, but who knows. I'm in favor of helping people who are true victims, but I'm even more worried about rewarding millions of dollars to false accusers! Next we'll see attorney's ads like this: "Out of a job and need money? You can make millions by falsely accusing someone of molesting you when you were young! No evidence necessary, just come in and make a claim and we'll get the ball rolling for ya!"
Long-time Associate Head Basketball Coach to the Syracuse Orangemen, Bernie Fine, is the subject of an investigation by the Syracuse Police amid allegations that he sexually molested a ball boy who is now 39 years old.

One solution to the problem of false accusations is to give the same sentence that the falsely accused would have gotten if convicted to the false accuser. That would eliminate a large percentage of the problem. That way only people with legitimate and provable cases would waste tax payer money on expensive trials and legal proceedings! I agree that those that have been abused should be helped, but not at the cost of turning the system into an easy way to achieve revenge or get rich.

Teens dress as Batman to catch pedophiles; cops not impressed
It appears that the Penn State scandal has inspired the idiots out there to attempt to get famous. The truly pathetic thing here is that some half-witted representative of an organization against child abuse actually condones this behavior. Just when you think that you have seen the most extreme stupidity possible, someone does something even stupider!
:smack:
The teenagers didn’t have any malicious intent, said Van Laer, but also didn’t realize there would be consequences to their actions. The police have ordered the YouTube videos to be removed for privacy reasons. Although they were taken down officially, copies have been reposted. Rosalind Prober, executive director of Beyond Borders, a non-profit that aims to end child pornography, prostitution and trafficking of children for sexual purposes, said Wednesday that the superhero teenagers were trying to do what officials at Penn State failed to do. “There, people did absolutely nothing to stop sexual exploitation and here we have young people crossing the line into vigilante justice,” she said.

Hypnosis for Eating Disorder Led to False Memories About Satanic Cult Abuse, Suit Says
File this one under Therapists Are Often Crazier Than Patients! A lot of the hysteria over various moral panics is enabled by therapists like the one in this article. Imaginary problems can often generate a lot of REAL CASH!!! Hopefully this therapist will pay for his predatory behavior and hopefully a lot more patients who have been taken advantage of in this way will sue the heck out of these idiots who are recognized as therapists by our clueless society!
A Minnesota woman is suing her Ballwin eating-disorder clinic and its director for giving her hypnosis treatment and psychotropic drugs that caused her to believe she was the victim of multiple rapes and a member of a satanic cult that sacrificed babies. The hypnosis and drugs that Castlewood Treatment Center provided to Lisa Nasseff also caused her to slip into at least twenty different personalities and induced her into thinking she'd been the victim of satanic abuse herself, according to the malpractice complaint recently filed in the Circuit Court of St. Louis County.

Is Child Sexual Abuse on the Rise?
Most articles fan the flames of hysteria, this one actually provides facts and reason to counteract emotional distortion and exaggeration of the problem. The problem here is that as the number of children at risk falls the efforts of those employed by the child safety industry increase. They must exaggerate the problem in order to keep getting their programs funded and thereby keep their jobs. They actually depend on hysteria in order to stay employed. It's important that calm and rational people speak out against these misinformation campaigns!
According to the nation's top experts, children are actually safer from physical and sexual abuse than they have been for decades. A National Incidence Study of Child Abuse and Neglect issued by the Department of Health and Human Services found that both physical and sexual abuse of children have dropped significantly over the past 20 years: From 2005 to 2006, an estimated 553,000 children suffered physical, sexual or emotional abuse, down 26 percent from the estimated 743,200 abuse victims in 1993. And between 1993 and 2005, the number of sexually abused children dropped 38 percent, while number of children who experienced physical abuse fell by 15 percent and those who were emotionally abused declined by 27 percent.

Here's a comment left regarding this article:
This has caused a great deal of unwarranted hysteria and changes in criminal law that are seriously questionable. It is now possible to jail a person for most of their life with the thinest possible evidence. A climate has been created where people are considered guilty until proven innocent and this is eventually going to be seriously abused by oppertunist.

Pedobear is more than just dark humor, says KRQE
Sometimes you just have to wonder how such incredibly stupid people wind up in the media and in law enforcement. Such stupidity is far more criminal than what these idiots are obsessing over! Pathetic! Simply pathetic! Although Pedobear might be in bad taste, it is simply subhuman not to recognize that it's a joke and to take it seriously and to treat it like something worthy of concern. To waste tax dollars on paying the salaries of the morons involved in this moral panic is simply beyond unbelievably stupid!
I hate to break it to news cast KRQE in Albuquerque, but Pedobear is the epitome of dark humor. Not only is it just that, it’s more a means of making fun of the sick bastards out there that do find this sort of thing “good”. It’s shameful that these people are actually reporting on and investigating cycberculture not knowing anything about it.

Know Your Meme: Pedobear
Hopefully the F*CKTARDS out there will take some time to get some real info. It's amazing when supposedly straight news shows are so clueless and you have to go to the web for accurate info. I agree that the media and law enforcement can be hopelessly stupid sometimes, BTW!
