I really find the hypocrisy of the tea partiers to be reprehensible. They talk about trimming government and then they back this kind of thing. They talk about Constitutional Principles, but then they just throw core constitutional concepts out the window. Those who are willing to sacrifice freedom for safety deserve neither!!!

The Inevitability Of Techno Moral Panics: But Think Of The Children
Fear mongering has always been part of human society and in modern society there seems to be a push to limit individual freedoms. I suppose individuals have been empowered by technology and those in power feel threatened and so they use any tactic they can to reduce the power of individuals.
...they almost always seem to target "women and children" first. It's the classic "for the children!" argument that we see all the time. In fact, the article highlights another techno moral panic we hadn't heard of before: around electricity:

If you electrify homes you will make women and children and vulnerable. Predators will be able to tell if they are home because the light will be on, and you will be able to see them. So electricity is going to make women vulnerable. Oh and children will be visible too and it will be predators, who seem to be lurking everywhere, who will attack.

Porn Industry, Large Companies "Hot and Bothered" Over .XXX Domain Launch
Interesting explanation of TYPOSQUATTING! :pacman:
Cybersquatters register domain names of large businesses like Coca-Cola and Apple, for instance, before the actual companies have a chance to buy them. There are also typosquatters, who register well-known brand domain names as well, but with slight typographic errors like "Peppsi" instead of "Pepsi." To prevent brand theft and regain control of these corporate Web addresses, these large businesses are at the mercy of the cybersquatter who beat them to the punch, and the result could be a hefty ransom and legal battles.

Only Four Percent of the Internet’s Top Sites Are Actually Porn
Another urban myth put to rest? A lot of what we believe about the world is the result of exaggerated media presentations designed to capture our attention by making outrageous claims. That's particularly true when it comes to matters which are sexual in nature. Not sure why many people are so gullible...
It means there just isn't as much porn out there as what conventional wisdom would have you believe. In fact, the idea that "the internet is for porn"—no one start singing—is largely a myth, with plenty of conflicting reports written that either inflating or understating how many adult sites actually exist. And it's doubtful that the new .xxx domains that went live last week will upset that trend.

Before there was YouPorn
Has porn really changed as a result of the internet? It's a lot easier to make now than it used to be and so anyone with a video camera and an internet camera can make some and upload it to some porn site, but it's not likely to be any good. Then again, there are some talented amateurs out there willing to share their talents the rest of the world for free and so that's got to be kind of good!
:thumb:
Has porn gotten better or worse? That's like asking, "Have movies gotten better or worse?" "Have books gotten better or worse?" Sex in our storytelling lives is a sign of the times. I think the concentration of all the money in this country into very few hands has been bad for art and bad for sex and bad for erotica. The trend against democracy is always bad for sexual speech and creative independence.

British Historian On Porn And Internet Censorship: North Korea Is Right -- The Internet Is Our Enemy --
from the nobody-does-liberty-better-than-totalitarians dept

The following comment was left in response to an article discussing another article which employed the typical save-the-children argument against internet porn.
I find it ironic that this fellow should discuss the blurring of childhood and adulthood in the same article as his reference to preserving good stuff from the past. Like Ronald Reagen and his "traditional family values", Stanley, an historian, ignores the real past. Victorian England was not all Sherlock Holmes and Pomp and Circumstance marches. Little kids, some in their single digit years worked alongside adults in mills and mines. They logged double digit hours with maybe some time off on Sunday to pray. If that isn't blurring childhood and adulthood, what, pray tell, is?

Facebook Is Drowning in a Flood of Hardcore Porn
Facebook?
I've never bought into the prudish point of view that depictions of nudity and sexual activity are bad. It doesn't bother me and I'm really not drawn to view it either. People who obsessively view porn and people who obsess over how bad porn is both seem equally stupid from my point of view. Porn is morally neutral, but people overly involved in porn, one way or the other, are really stupid!
Worms and scams aren't uncommon on Facebook, but the porn flood appears to be of a different magnitude than most Facebook exploits. What's going on? One potential lead: hackers associated with Anonymous claimed last week to be developing a powerful "Guy Fawkes virus" with which they would attack Facebook. Spamming gore and porn is definitely one of Anonymous' trademark moves. Facebook must be fuming at this defilement of their users' pure white news feeds. Its prude moderators censor a even a tasteful drawing of a nude woman if it looks too realistic. It's the internet: Porn finds a way.

Teacher And Cop Team Up In Porn Website Business Run From Her School!
It's not clear from the article why the teacher had to use school computers for this enterprise. No judgement here, but while I see nothing wrong with a teacher running a porn website, it doesn't stand to reason that she would use school computers in any way to manage or add content to the website.
:smack:
A Stockton, Calif. teacher and her cop boyfriend are being investigated for running several porn websites from her school computer. Heidi Kaeslin, a married special ed teacher at Lincoln High, has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. Her partner in love and in the alleged sex business is Richard Fields, who was the Stockton police officer assigned to her school prior to being forced into early retirement by budget cuts last May. The websites in question had names like mysluttyteachers.com, teachertitties.com and RandHentertainment.com. On RandHentertainment.com, it says: "This company was created by a young teacher who was inspired, after her male students spent most of the period staring at her boobs."

A Thousand Dildos For The Military Wives
Maybe they can go to one of those live online video chat websites and watch each other while they're at it! Maybe you still can't reach out and touch someone, but you can watch them touch themselves!
RealTouch wants to bring teledildonics to Afghanistan. Company manager Scott Rinaldo, appearing at a CES party sponsored by porn firm Pink Visual, said he's working on distributing "a thousand dildos for the military wives"—in this case, Internet-connected sex toys that can let families thousands of miles apart get intimate.

YouPorn Gets Caught With Its Pants Down—Users’ Email and Passwords Compromised
People who post on YouPorn don't seem to be all that worried about exposing themselves, but I suppose that someone could use this information to take control of their accounts and delete videos that were racking up lots of views and generating revenue. A quick password update would seem to be all it would take to solve the problem and so this should not be much of a problem for active users!
:dizzy:
YouPorn has already taken steps to contain the breach. The company has completely disabled the chat function, which will remain so until a third-party security analysis has been completed. "YouPorn continues to ensure that all appropriate measures and tools are in place to maintain the security of its infrastructure, and to safeguard the privacy of its users," Manwin Holding SARL spokeswoman Kate Miller said in a statement.
