There are a lot of contests on YouTube! Some are sponsored by large
corporations and others are small, informal competitons put on by
individuals. One particularly fun contest that I participated in during
February of 2008 was
"The Great Amplifier Giveaway"
hosted by the katiesopinion channel on YouTube. The prize offered in this contest was a
product called "Amp in a Can" which is basically just a very small guitar amplifier
made by Cactus Tube Amps
of Arizona that looks like a can of beer. While I didn't win the contest, I
was listed as one of the five final nominees and an excerpt of my entry was
played in the awards video for the contest.

Interestingly, DaveDays was disqualified from the contest since his video,
Katie's Song ;-),
received more views than the video announcing the contest and so instead of
receiving the regular prize, he helped Katie to announce the winners. (BTW, here's my
entry into the contest: Katie's Opinion by blackturtle.us.)
Another contest that I didn't win, but was a finalist in, was the Spring Dream Challenge
sponsored by Lowes. I wound up making three versions of the video before
I finally satsified all the picky little requirements of the contest. If I
had won this contest I would have received a makeover for my entryway worth up to
ten thousand dollars. It would have been nice to have replaced my door and
to have spruced up the entryway, but you can't win them all!

The video featured on this page was my entry into the Slacker G2 contest
sponsored by ComputerTV during May of 2009. Although I wound up winning this
contest, so far the video hasn't received all that many views. This contest
required entrants to write an original jingle under one minute in length
that included the following words: overclocking, ComputerTV, robots, and
irrawaddy (a type of dolphin). The prize I received for winning this contest
was a Slacker G2. Also my video was played in its entirely in
ComputerTV Episode 54 and a clip was shown in Episode 55 in which the
contest winners were announced. The following video links take you straight
to the parts of the ComputerTV episodes relevant to this blog:
