It is not reasonable for any government to impose restrictions on what
plants individual citizens can cultivate. Whether we're talking about
cannabis, opium poppies, or peyote, people should be free to grow these
plants without the fear that a governmental entity will impose some sort of
penalty for doing so. Plants are part of our collective heritage and as such
we all should have access to all species regardless of the beliefs of
bureaucrats and law enforcement officials. Restrictions on the cultivation
of plants are a form of tyrrany that should not be tolerated in a free
society. The right to cultivate all species of plants should be regarded as
an inalienable right!
It appears as if the cultivation of cannabis may soon become legal. It's
hard to say at this point just how many restrictions regarding possession
and/or cultivation of cannabis will be lifted, but it appears at this time
that at least some restrictions will cease to exist here in California and
to varying degrees throughout the United States. The outright
legalization of marijuana is a distinct possibility, but it seems that most
politicians lack the courage to push legislation that completely
decriminalizes cannabis. However, it does seem clear that legalization of
marijuana would save money wasted enforcing laws prohibiting its use,
possession, and cultivation. Also legalization would allow for the taxation
of cannabis, which would generate a lot of money in public funds!
Embedded on this page are two extremely short songs/videos. The top one is
called "Legalize and Tax Marijuana" and the second one is called "Legalize
the Weed!" Both were submitted to a contest sponsored by the citizentube
channel on YouTube. All video submissions had to clock in at under twenty
seconds. Naturally I had to submit my question in the form of a song and so
I cobbled together a few lines on the topic of marijuana legalization and
taxation. Also, featured in the first video is a horse that lives near my house
and that is owned by some friends. The horse helps to illustrate the second line
of the song, which is meant as a metaphor for the political complications
inherent in any legislation relevant to the possible legalization of
marijuana. The second video is just me goofing around and wearing a wig I
purchased last Halloween!
