For this reason it is best to avoid physical contact with Notchleaf Phacelia. One of the more descriptive alternate common names for this plant is scorpionweed, which is especially appropriate since the small flowers form in clusters that are coiled in a manner that is reminiscent of the tail of a scorpion. Formerly this plant was a member of the Waterleaf Family (Hydrophyllaceae), but it has been reclassified and is now a member of the Borage Family (Boraginaceae).
