Ideas for silly songs that can be used in YouTube videos are all over the
place. The problem is recognizing the potential in ordinary events and
objects. Unless you have a huge budget and a crew to work with, it's
necessary to be creatively resourceful when it comes to utilizing elements
of your everyday environment as inspiration for songs and videos. The trick
is to try to find a way to make the mundane interesting and entertaining.
When a great idea hits, it's fun to develop it, but it's important not to
force an idea too hard, since that usually doesn't yield good results.
I've made a couple musical videos featuring toilet paper tubes. The first
was called
"Used Toilet Paper"
and the view count on that video is currently a bit over 3500 views. An
older version of the same song/video topped 3000 views on my old channel
before I took it down and updated it a little for my new channel. So, in
total that video has actually been viewed over 6000 times altogether. The
second video featuring used toilet paper tubes is called
"Used Toilet
Paper Tubes" and it is getting pretty close to 1000 views after four
months on YouTube. I suppose it's fair to say that I've managed to find a
unique way to recycle my toilet paper tubes and I plan to do another used
toilet paper tubes video sooner or later!
At this point I have about fifty used toilet paper tubes and the collection
grows steadily by about one tube every two weeks or so. The exact rate at
which the collection grows is affected in part by dietary variables and in
part by various qualities of the particular brand of toilet paper I happen
to be using. My last toilet paper purchase was one of those huge bulk bundles
with forty or so rolls in it and so the physical attributes of the toilet
paper I'm using will probably remain consistent for the foreseeable future.
Another factor that influences the rate of the growth of my toilet paper
tube collection is how often I use the restroom away from home. This is
somewhat variable, but hasn't been a huge factor in recent months! One way
or the other, I anticipate that my toilet paper tube collection should hit
sixty tubes by the end of June. My plan is to write my next toilet paper
tube song when my collection reaches 100 tubes!
