Remember to line up the columns when doing subtraction problems with two digits.

47 53 ----- 4	STEP ONE: subtract the digits in the ones column
47 53 ----- 14	STEP TWO: subtract the digits in the tens column

Here's another example:

78 26 ----- 2	STEP ONE: subtract the digits in the ones column
78 26 ----- 52	STEP TWO: subtract the digits in the tens column
