Apostrophes and Possession

What if more than one person owns one thing? 


	We stopped to watch the boys' game.
If something belongs to a group and the word we use for the group ends with an "s" then we just add an apostrophe to show ownership. Think about these two examples. 

       We stopped to watch the children's game.

       We stopped to watch the girls' game.
To talk about more than one child we use the word children. Since it does not end with an "s" we add apostrophe-s to show possession. To talk about more than one girl we use the word girls. Since it does end with an "s" we just add an apostrophe to show possession.

    the class' project		The project that belongs to the class.                                                             
                      
    the babies' cries		The cries that belong to the babies.

    the birds' nests		The nests that belong to the birds.
